Please be advised of the following town by-law:  No person shall pipe or otherwise deposit in or on upon any public way or way to which the public has a right to access, any water or other substance i.e.; snow, ice or leaves which may freeze and thereby create a hazardous condition per town adopted by-law.

This by-law pertains mainly to residents whose sump pumps are discharged onto a public street.  This is not allowed and is punishable by a $50 per day fine.  Discharged water will freeze on the roadway creating a hazardous traveling condition.  Once the DPW is notified, the offending residence will receive a letter from the DPW advising them that they are violationg the town's by-law and will subsequently be held accountable for any liability resulting from the hazardous travel condition.

Time to move the hoops! PDF Print E-mail

It is that time of year again when we are making our winter weather preparations.  Please be advised that any resident that owns a basketball hoop that is in the road or just off of it, either permanently mounted or portable, is advised to move the hoop at least 10 feet off of the edge of the road for the upcoming snow season.  If the hoop is permanently mounted we are advising you to either remove the actual hoop portion or at least rotate the hoop away from the roadway.  These hoops are considered a hinderance to snow removal operations and are not to be left in any area that the DPW plows. Neither the town nor the DPW will be responsible for any damage to personal property (hoops, fences, mailboxes, etc.) if it is determined to be within the road layout during snow removal operations.  We thank you for your anticipated cooperation in this matter.
