In June of 2010 the East Bridgewater DPW completed the East St. resurfacing project. This project consisted of scarifying the entire length of East St. from Rt. 18 to the Bridgewater town line (approx. 3700 feet) and then placing new asphalt in two courses. The first course is a leveling course and the second course is the wearing course. Scarifying or milling consists of chewing off the top 1 to 3 inches of existing asphalt to re-establish a crown and profile in th roadway. The milled material is stockpiled in town for future use on other projects. After milling is complete, new asphalt is placed to provide a smooth traveling surface and direct stormwater to exising drainage structures. Aggregate Industries placed 2 1/4 inches of new asphalt, between the leveling course and wearing course, over the milled area in one day. The funds for this project were provided through the state's Chapter 90 program.
