The DPW now has the ability to perform routine maintenance on its stormwater drain and pipe systems. This is accomplished by using a unique vehicle that was acquired from the Boston Water and Sewer department. The vehicle is equipped with a large capacity water tank and hi-pressure pump. The water is pumped at high velocity through a 1 1/4" hose with a specialized nozzle on it to clean the walls of all types of pipes. This high pressure system has proven to be invaluable in many instances in the 4 years we have had the truck. It can remove clogs in storm drains and piping and will remove sand, leaves, silt, roots and most any type of organic material that may be causing a blockage in the stormwater system. We have cleared major blockages on David lane, Walnut St., the Fire dept., and Union St. We continue to discover new uses for this vehicle and it saves time, money and property. Below is a photo of the clog that was removed from David lane. It is 5 feet long and reduced flow in that particular drainage system to only 1/10 of its capacity. We had the blockage remedied in 2 hours.
