Your water meter is read twice a year by water division personnel (see reading schedule below).  Bills are mailed out the following month.  You are charged a standard fee for the use of the water for any amount below 800 cubic feet.  The charge for this is $86.75 per billing cycle.  Any amount between 800 cubic feet and 9,000 cubic feet of usage is charged at a rate of $3.90 per 100 cubic feet used.  Usage above 9,000 cubic feet per billing cylce gets charged at a rate of $6.24 per 100 cubic feet.

For example, if you use 7600 cubic feet of water in a particular billing cycle (6 months) you take the 7600 and subtract the 800 cubic feet that is included in the standard charge.  This equals 6800 cubic feet.  The rate for 6800 cubic feet is 3.90/100 cubic feet.  You then divide 6800 by 100 to get 68.  Multiply 68 times the rate of $3.90 and that equals $265.20.  You then need to add the charge of the basic rate of $86.75. So your total water bill for that cycle is $351.95.

The same formula applies for usage above 9,000 cubic feet.

The water bills have been changed recently to show the standard charge of $86.75.  This was not shown on previous bills.  We can assure you that this is not a new charge.  The rates have not changed in almost two years.  The only thing that has changed is the information shown on your water bill.

The rates above apply only to residential properties. There are different rates for commercial properties.
